Vacationers have flocked to 92 beaches in Gangwon Province on the first weekend since beaches along the east coast opened for the season.

Despite the rather cloudy weather, visitors were busy with activities including time on the beach or visits to fish markets by port areas.

Meanwhile, heat wave advisories were issued in eight counties and cities in western Gangwon Province including the cities of Chuncheon and Wonju. 

Koreans also sought after mountain valleys to beat the sultry heat as the summer vacation season earnestly kicked off.
