The South Korean men's taekwondo team grabbed gold in the kyorugi, or sparring, event at the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade.
The four-member team beat China 9-8 on Monday, winning South Korea's eighth taekwondo gold at this year's games.
Earlier, the women's team lost to Russia in the kyorugi semi-finals, winning a bronze medal along with Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the South Korean men's team dropped three-nil to Italy in the football finals to take home silver. It was South Korea’s first football silver in 18 years since the Sicily Summer Universiade in Italy in 1997.
The women's handball team also gained silver after falling to Russia, while rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae snagged two additional gold medals in hoop and ball on Monday.
Some 13-thousand athletes from 146 countries competed in Gwangju at the largest Universiade ever, which was held under the slogan "light of the creation, light of the future."
With South Korea set to take the top honors for the first time at a Summer Universiade, the closing ceremony will begin at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
