Some 200 passengers of the “Eurasia Express” embarked on a 20-day journey on Wednesday.
Passengers have been divided into two teams to travel to Berlin either from Vladivostok on the Trans-Siberian Railway or from Beijing on the Trans-Mongolia Railway. The teams will meet in Irkutsk on Sunday and travel 14-thousand-400 kilometers to reach Berlin.
Passengers include leading figures from the political, financial and cultural sectors as well as descendants of independence fighters.
During their journey, participants will play the role of diplomatic missionaries before taking part in a rally praying for unification of the two Koreas in Berlin.
Hosted by the Foreign Ministry and the Korea Railway Corporation, the event is one of the government’s trial projects related to the Eurasia Initiative which aims to boost economic cooperation. The initiative also aims to lay the groundwork for unification by establishing a transportation and logistics network between Europe and Asia.
