South Korean fencer Jung Seung-hwa has won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Fencing Championships held in Moscow, Russia.

Jung lost to Geza Imre of Hungary 8 to 15 at the men’s epee individual semi-final match.

It was the first medal the South Korean fencing team won at this year’s championships.

Jung defeated world champion Enrico Garozzo of Italy in the quarterfinal, boosting optimism that South Korea could perform well in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

In the women’s epee category, South Korean fencers Choi In-jeong and Shin A-lam were eliminated in the round of 16 and in the round of 32, respectively.
