The number of viewers who saw movies in IMAX theaters surged sharply in the first half of this year, while none of the screened movies were South Korean.
 
According to the Korean Film Council on Tuesday, one-point-19 million people watched movies in IMAX theaters in the first half of this year, up nearly 94 percent compared to the same period last year. 
 
The sales in the theaters were assessed to have risen eight-point-three billion won to a total of 17-point-two billion won.
 
However, all 16 movies screened in IMAX theaters were foreign flicks.
 
Some 95 million people watched movies in theaters in the first half of this year, down one-and-a-half percent from the same period last year. With sales reaped by IMAX theaters rising sharply, total sales secured by movie theaters rose two-point-six percent to stand at roughly 760 billion won.
