UEFA President Launches Campaign for Top FIFA Post

The head of European football's governing body has launched a campaign for president of FIFA.

The president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini reportedly confirmed his run in a letter seeking support sent to 209 FIFA member associations.

The FIFA election is slated for February 26 next year with candidacy registration set to close on October 26.

Early this month, former FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon said he would declare his candidacy for the top FIFA post around mid-August.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced in June that he would step down from the top post amid a swirling corruption scandal.
