Kyodo: N. Korea Covering Modified Launcher

Japan’s Kyodo News Agency says that North Korea is covering a launch tower at its missile facility near the Yellow Sea.

Quoting a diplomatic source, the report said on Sunday that the launcher at Dongchang-ri in Cholsan county, North Pyongyang Province, is being covered after being modified recently.

The North was recently observed to have erected a taller launch tower at the facility measuring 67 meters high.

The moves came amid speculation that the North will likely launch a longer-range missile around the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party on October 10.

The covering of the launcher will likely make it difficult for the United States to monitor the North’s preparations for the possible launch and confirm the shape of a missile to be launched.
