KBS to Cover Youth Soccer Event in Pyongyang

An international youth soccer tournament hosted by the two Koreas will be held in Pyongyang next week.

Hosted by a South Korean association on inter-Korean sports exchange and the Pyongyang International Football School, the event will take place at the Rungrado May Day Stadium for four days from August 21.

A total of eight teams from six countries, including China and Brazil and two teams each from South and North Korea will compete in the games.

It's the first time in seven years for a youth soccer event attended by both Koreas to be held in the North Korean capital.

The North also announced the sports event through the Korean Central News Agency on Saturday.

Earlier the Seoul government approved a trip to the North by some 80 players and officials in line with its principle to support cross-border sports exchanges.

A KBS crew will accompany the athletes to Pyongyang on Sunday. It marks the first coverage in Pyongyang by a South Korean media firm since sanctions were placed on inter-Korean exchange in May 2010.
