Hong Sang-soo Wins Top Prize at Locarno Film Festival

South Korean director Hong Sang-soo has won the coveted Golden Leopard prize for his bittersweet romantic comedy “Right Now, Wrong Then” at the 68th edition of the Locarno Film Festival.

The film’s star Jung Jae-young also took the prize for best actor becoming the first Korean male lead to win the award at the festival hosted in Switzerland.

"Right Now, Wrong Then" stars Jung and Kim Min-hee as they play the roles of a film director and a painter who meet and spend the same day together twice.

The win gives Hong’s film a profile boost as it heads into festivals in Toronto and New York.

This is the second time a Korean film won the Golden Leopard at Locarno. In 1989, director Bae Yong-kyun took home the award for his work on the 1989 film "Why Has Bodhi-Dharma Left for the East?"
