Chung Mong-joon Announces Bid for FIFA Presidency

Former president of the Korea Football Association, Chung Mong-joon, announced his bid for FIFA’s top post during a news conference in Paris on Monday.

Chung said FIFA needs new leadership as the reason the organization has become branded as corrupt is because a person like current President Sepp Blatter wielded omnipotent power for 40 years.

Chung made eight pledges if he’s elected as FIFA’s new president, including a vow to reveal his monthly salary, bonuses and expense account to raise financial transparency. He also promised to serve as president for just four years.

So far, three other people have thrown their hats into the ring to claim FIFA’s top post. President of the Union of European Football Associations Michel Platini along with soccer legends Diego Maradona and Coimbra Zico have officially declared their bids.

The next FIFA president will be decided in Zurich on February 26 next year in a vote of 209 member countries.
