More SARS Patients Die Over Weekend in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan

Twenty-two people died of SARS in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan on Sunday alone. In Hong Kong, the total death toll rose to 133 after twelve more people died on Sunday and sixteen new cases of infections have been reported, bringing the total number of patients to more than 1500. In China, nine more people died over the weekend raising the death toll to 131. Almost 3000 Chinese have been confirmed to have contracted the deadly flu-like illness, with some 160 new patients added to the list on Sunday. Taiwan reported its first SARS death among fifty-five patients. The Taiwanese government has decided to forcibly quarantine for ten days travelers returning from SARS-hit countries.
