North Korean media has disclosed news of the two Koreas wrapping up marathon negotiations and reaching an agreement.
Korean Central Television reported at around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday that South and North Korea sincerely discussed matters of principle to prevent a military confrontation and seek progress in inter-Korean ties.
The television service then introduced the joint statement that the two Koreas adopted in their high-level talks that ended in the early hours of Tuesday.
In particular, the station clearly reported on the second clause of the joint statement in which the North expressed regret over South Korean soldiers being maimed by land mine explosions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
The Korean Central Broadcasting Station interrupted a music program at 2 a.m. to report that the high-level inter-Korean talks at the truce village of Panmunjeom had ended.
The disclosure came three minutes before an announcement by Kim Kwan-jin, the head of the South’s Presidential National Security Office.
The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers’ Party, also covered the negotiations on page four and printed the joint statement.
