S. Korea Routs Laos 8-0 in World Cup Preliminaries

The South Korean national football team logged a second consecutive victory in regional preliminaries for the 2018 World Cup as it demolished Laos 8-0 in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province on Thursday.

Recent Tottenham signee Son Heung-min scored a hat trick while Kwon Chang-hoon added two goals during South Korea’s second Group G match at Hwaseong Sports Complex Main Stadium.

The 57th-ranked South Korea, led by head coach Uli Stielike, also got help from Lee Chung-yong, Suk Hyun-jun and Lee Jae-sung, who each scored against the 174th-ranked South East Asian team.

Following a 2-nil victory over Myanmar in June, South Korea is leading Group G, which also has Lebanon and Kuwait. The Reds will next have an away match with Lebanon on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, North Korea defeated Bahrain 1-0 Thursday, maintaining its lead in Group H, after victories over Yemen and Uzbekistan.
