South Korean high school history textbooks are likely to include more detailed descriptions of two deadly provocations by North Korea in 2010.
The National Institute of Korean History said Friday that it will hold a public hearing later in the day on a draft proposal for new guidelines for writing history textbooks.
The draft guidelines stipulate that high school history books pay more heed to incidents regarding North Korean military provocations, including the sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan and the shelling of Yeonpyeong in 2010.
Currently, only three of eight Korean high school history textbooks contain the Cheonan sinking.
The proposed guidelines also require more updated and detailed descriptions of disputes between South Korea and Japan, such as the sovereignty of South Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo and the sexual enslavement of women during World War II.
The Ministry of Education plans to confirm guidelines based on the proposal, after considering the views of experts and the public.
