Report: Lydia Ko has become the youngest winner of a woman's golf major by capturing the Evian Championship in France.
The South Korea-born New Zealander shot eight-under 63 after carding eight birdies in the final round at the Evian Resort Golf Club on Sunday.
Ko finished the tournament at 16-under 268, six shots clear of American Lexi Thompson.
Ko achieved the feat at 18 years and 142 days, taking the record from American Morgan Pressel, who was 171 days older when winning the Kraft Nabisco in 2007.
Ko, who won a prize of 487-thousand-500 U.S. dollars, or about 578 million won, now has four wins this season and a total of nine wins on the LPGA tour.
With the tournament in the books, the world’s top ranked female golfer Park In-bee must wait at least another year to have a shot at completing her "super" Grand Slam.
Earlier this year, Park won the 2015 Ricoh Women's British Open to become only the seventh player in history to win four different majors, completing a career Grand Slam.
The only major tournament missing from Park’s trophy case is the Evian Championship. Although she won the event in 2012, it did not become the LPGA’s fifth major until the following year.
Park finished this year’s tournament five under par to tie for 8th place with fellow South Koreans Ji Eun-hee and Yang Hee-Young. Lee Il-hee and Lee Mi-hyang tied for fourth at seven under.
