S. Korea Ranks First in OECD in Annual Hospital Visits

Recent data shows that South Koreans visit hospitals more frequently than citizens of other member countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

According to the OECD Health Statistics 2015, the average South Korean visited a doctor 14-point-six times in 2013, more than double the OECD average of six-point-seven.

Japan came in second at 12-point-nine visits per person per year followed by Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Finland had the least number of doctor visits at two-point-six times a year. Mexico and Sweden were also among the countries with the least number of visits.

South Koreans stayed in the hospital for an average of 16-point-five days out of the year, also more than double the OECD average of seven-point-three days. Japan outdid South Korea in this category with 17-point-two days.
