A South Korean film titled "Snowy Road" from director Lee Na-jeong has won the best picture and best actress awards at the 24th China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

Snowy Road competed in the international film category and clinched the two awards with Kim Sae-ron taking best actress honors.

The movie is the story of young girls sexually enslaved by Japanese troops during the Second World War. It was first made as a special TV drama by KBS to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation. The film was later remade in a cinematic format.

The movie version was first screened at this year's Jeonju International Film Festival.

The China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival combines two major Chinese film festivals. It's one of the top three film galas in the Chinese speaking region along with the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
