Int'l Symposium on Multiculturalism to be Held in Seoul

An international symposium on multiculturalism will be held at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul on October eighth.
 
The event is being organized by the Sookmyung Institute for Multicultural Studies and the Korean Association for Multicultural Studies.
 
Around ten academics from South Korea and other countries will discuss problems coming from the expansion of multicultural societies and ways to address such problems.
 
University of Michigan Professor Nicholas Valentino, who is a renowned figure in the field of political psychology, will speak about the effects the difference in race and people have on a nation.
 
Korean Japanese human rights expert, Professor Seo Seung, will review the past and present of Japan’s multiculturalism.
 
Other academics from Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan will introduce cases of multiculturalism in their countries.
 
The Sookmyung Institute for Multicultural Studies said a sense of crisis over multicultural societies is growing as such societies are expanding. The institute said the upcoming symposium will focus on determining the bright and dark sides of multiculturalism and seek ways for coexistence and integration.
