Report: The sixth CISM, or International Military Sports Council, World Games will open in eight cities and districts in South Korea, including Munkyung, Pohang, Kimcheon and Andong, from this Friday to Sunday of next week.
The opening and closing ceremonies for the sports festival will be held in Moonkyung, North Gyeongsang Province.
This marks the first time for the sports event, which is held every four years, to open in South Korea.
Roughly 87-hundred soldiers in active service from some 120 countries will compete in 24 events, including 19 general events often seen in Olympic Games and five events that are focused on the characteristics of soldiers. The size of participants will be the largest-ever.
The 19 general events include archery, basketball, boxing, cycling, fencing, soccer, golf, handball and marathon.
Among the five military events there will be orienteering and high-altitude low-opening parachuting technique competitions.
At the opening ceremony, the participants will wear their countries’ military uniform, thus providing a rare opportunity for people to see the military uniforms of various countries.
