The 20th Busan International Film Festival will kick off its ten-day run on Thursday with an opening ceremony in the evening.
This year, the festival in the southern port city of Busan showcases 304 films from 75 countries including 27 world premieres. The films will be shown at 35 screens in six theaters across Busan.
Thursday's opening ceremony, hosted by South Korean actor Song Kang-ho and Afghan actress Marina Golbahari, will take place at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center. The opening film is "Zubaan," a world premiere by Indian director Mozez Singh.
During the festival, famed directors and screen stars from home and abroad will visit Busan to meet with audiences and fans. French actress Sophie Marceau, Chinese actress Tang Wei and Taiwanese film director Hou Hsiao-hsien are among those visiting the port city.
Numerous film industry events will also take place on the sidelines such as the Asian Film Market.
