Honorary President of the Korea Football Association Chung Mong-joon is facing a suspension by FIFA.
Chung, who in August declared his bid for the FIFA presidency, held a news conference in Seoul on Tuesday, announcing that he is facing a 15-year suspension by FIFA’s Ethics Committee.
He added that the committee is also seeking to four more years of suspension for denouncing the committee.
Chung said FIFA raised issue with letters he sent to FIFA executive committee members in 2010, in which Chung expressed his intentions to create a fund worth 777 million U.S. dollars for the advancement of football in making Seoul's bid to host the 2022 World Cup.
Chung said sending the letters was a fair act, adding that he received a letter from FIFA stating that his proposals posed no problems.
The South Korean FIFA presidential candidate then vowed to register his candidacy on October 26 and address the latest crisis through various measures, including legal steps.
If FIFA’s Ethics Committee decides to suspend Chung, he cannot register as a candidate for the FIFA presidential race.
