S. Korea's Coast Guard Investigates Alleged Boat Collision

South Korean authorities are looking into North Korea’s claim that a South Korean vessel left the scene after colliding with a North Korean fishing boat in the East Sea last week.

South Korea’s Coast Guard said on Tuesday that the South Korean vessel accused by the North is the 23-thousand-ton freighter “Highny.”

The coast guard said that it sent investigators to Port of Kaohsiung in Taiwan after confirming the freighter’s location.

The North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Monday that the South Korean boat crashed into the North's fishing vessel and injured five North Koreans last Thursday.
