S. Korea, Kuwait to Face off in 2018 World Cup Qualifier

The South Korean national football team will take on Kuwait Thursday night in their fourth match of the second preliminary round for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea is leading Group G with three victories. Kuwait has also won their three previous second round matches, trailing South Korea only by goal difference.

It will be a crucial match for both nations as only one team from each of the eight groups can advance to the final preliminary round.

Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur and Lee Chung-yong of Crystal Palace will sit out the match due to injuries.

Head Coach Uli Stielike will instead aim for a fourth consecutive win with young K-League players, such as Lee Jae-sung and Kwon Chang-hoon.

South Korea has played 22 matches against Kuwait so far, and is slightly ahead with 10 victories, eight losses and four draws.
