Event Held on Eve of Presidents Cup in Songdo

An event was held Wednesday on the eve of the 2015 Presidents Cup golf tournament at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.

The event saw the participation of President Park Geun-hye, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, former U.S. President George W. Bush and Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok.

Park conveyed words of encouragement to players, saying she hopes all participants will demonstrate remarkable performances that will be remembered in history.

For four days starting from Thursday, 30 matches will be held at Incheon.

The Presidents Cup involves match play of U.S. players against a team of international golfers from non-European countries. The cup is gaining prestige as an intercontinental golf tournament along with the Ryder Cup.

Established in 1994, the host for the biennial event alternates between U.S. venues and non-U.S. venues.

Until now, aside from the U.S., only Australia, South Africa and Canada have hosted the event.
