Guardian: Blatter Paid Platini for Election Endorsement

The Guardian has suggested that Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) President Michel Platini received a huge amount of money from FIFA President Sepp Blatter in return for supporting Blatter during a FIFA election.

The British newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying that Blatter handed two million Swiss francs, or two-point-four billion won, to Platini in February, 2011 after Platini promised to back Blatter’s fourth run for FIFA president.

It is known that Platini indeed expressed his support for Blatter after allegedly receiving the money.

The Guardian also raised suspicions that Blatter promised Platini that he would not run for another election if he won the fourth term, a move that would naturally make a way for Platini to succeed him.
