Separated Families to Hold Final 2 Hour Meeting

Separated families from South and North Korea will end their long-awaited reunions on Thursday following meetings over two nights and three days.

For two hours beginning at 9:30 a.m., 389 South Koreans will have a farewell meeting with 141 spouses, siblings and other family members from the North at a resort in Mount Geumgang.

The final meetings at previous reunions lasted for one hour, but were extended to two hours for the first time at the latest reunions after the North accepted a proposal from the South.

South Korean family members will have lunch in the North after saying goodbye then depart for the South by bus at 1:20 p.m.

A new batch of reunions, which will join 90 families from the two Koreas, will begin on Saturday for another three days. A total of 255 South Korean participants will meet with 188 family members who they became separated from during the Korean War in the 1950s.
