Participants Gather in Sokcho for 2nd Round of Reunions

With just one day ahead of the second round of inter-Korean family reunions, South Korean participants gathered at a resort in Sokcho, Gangwon Province on Friday to stay overnight before traveling to the scenic mountain in the North.

On Saturday, they will depart for the North's Mount Geumgang resort around 8:30 a.m. and will meet with 188 participants from the North in the first group meeting starting at 3:30 p.m.

Among the 90 South Korean applicants for the second round of reunions, 88 percent are more than 80 years old, with 33 people in their 90s.

While sibling reunions stood out in the first session, 13 families in the second session will be reunions of parents and children.

Volunteers and 20 doctors are on standby in Sokcho to assist elderly members with wheelchairs and ambulances.
