The Ministry of Education on Monday reaffirmed that it will publicly reveal the identities of the writers of standardized state-issued history textbooks.
The statement was made to clear confusion caused by a remark from National Institute of Korean History President Kim Jung-bae during a parliamentary inspection session last Friday.
During the session, Kim said he would decide whether to publicly reveal the identities after speaking with the writers, saying revealing the information could cause them problems.
Previously Kim had said the identities of the writers would be unveiled once the writing process begins.
The ministry said there has been no change in its stance that it will disclose the identities. It said it remains undecided only on the timing and method of making the information public, adding that internal discussions are underway.
The ministry plans to finalize the list of writers by the middle of next month.
