Chung Withdraws FIFA Presidential Bid

Chung Mong-joon, honorary president of the Korea Football Association, has officially withdrawn his bid for FIFA president.

Chung, who received a six-month ban from football’s governing body on October 8, posted a message on his personal blog on Monday, the last day to register as a FIFA presidential candidate.

The 64-year-old wrote that he inevitably had to withdraw his bid due to the disciplinary measure but vowed, as a football lover, to continue speaking out about FIFA issues.

Chung announced his bid for FIFA president in August but was slapped with a six-month ban and a fine of 100-thousand Swiss francs by FIFA's Ethics Committee earlier this month.
