The Ministry of Education will officially announce the plan to issue single, state-authored history textbooks on Tuesday, two days earlier than expected.
The official announcement was expected on Thursday after the administrative notice period ends at midnight Tuesday.
With the announcement, the ministry will also announce basic plans regarding the development of state-designated history textbooks and disclose any public opinions submitted during the administrative notice period.
It is set to finalize a list of writers and members of a review committee by the middle of this month.
The ministry is also presumed to change part of the curriculum guidelines for secondary schools in order to implement the plan beginning March 2017 as previously announced.
Under the revised curriculum guidelines for the academic year of 2015, which were announced in September, a new curriculum for first-year middle school students will not be applied until March 2018.
On October 12, the ministry gave administrative notice that it will issue state-designated, single standardized Korean history textbooks in middle and high schools from the 2017 academic year.
