The roster for a regional World Cup qualifier has been announced.
At the Korea Football Association on Monday, the national football team’s head coach Uli Stielike announced a list of 23 players who will participate in the second preliminary round for the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Son Heung-min of English club Tottenham Hotspur has made it to the roster, despite predictions that he would be left out due to a foot injury.
Lee Chung-yong of Crystal Palace was included, as he also recovered from an injury. Suk Hyun-jun of Portuguese club Vitória de Setúbal and Hwang Ui-jo of Korean club Seongnam FC are on the roster as front-line strikers.
Seongnam defender Yun Young-sun and Cho Hyun-woo a Daegu-based goalie, have joined the national team for the first time in their careers.
Kwon Chang-hoon of the Suwon Samsung Blue Wings was excluded, as he is on the roster for the nation’s Olympic team.
The South Korean World Cup team will gather on November 9 and face off against Myanmar in Suwon on November 12. The team will then travel to Laos for a match on November 17.
