South Korea’s first dome stadium has opened in Guro-dong in western Seoul.

The opening ceremony of Gocheok Sky Dome took place at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, following an autograph session of around 50 sports stars at 4 p.m.

The first official game held was a baseball match between South Korea and Cuba at 6:30 p.m.

About 270 billion Korean won, or around 238 million U.S. dollars, was spent on the building, which will be home to a Korean baseball team, the Nexen Heroes, until 2017.

Meanwhile, a 45-hundred meter plaza built near the stadium will serve as a rest area for citizens and a venue where concerts and performances can be held.
