Former head coach of South Korea’s national football team Guus Hiddink returned from North Korea on Saturday after signing an agreement to build a futsal stadium in Pyongyang.
Hiddink arrived at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul via Beijing and said during an interview that he signed the agreement to build the “Dream Field,” in Pyongyang, a futsal stadium for visually impaired players.
He said that he plans to open more futsal stadiums in other North Korean cities, including the inter-Korean border city Gaeseong.
Hiddink added that he discussed with North Korean officials ways to develop the North’s youth soccer and establish a six-nation women’s tournament in the near future.
He said that he was not offered to lead the North’s national football team, adding he will visit the North again next summer.
Hiddink returned from his three-day visit to the North via Beijing after meeting with North Korea officials including the chiefs of the North’s football association and sports ministry.
