The Baek In-je House, which was built during the Japanese colonial period and is one of the few remaining large-scale traditional houses in Seoul, opened to the public on Wednesday.
The house was built in 1913 by banker Han Sang-ryong on some two-thousand-400 square meters of land and features both traditional Korean and Japanese architectural elements.
Black pine, one of the most luxurious lumbers of the period, was used to build the residence.
The house was later sold to a journalist and then again to the founder of Inje University Paik Hospital in 1944.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government purchased the house in 2009 and turned it into a museum exhibiting the life of the upper class during the early 20th century.
Admission is free of charge and the house is open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
