Report: South Korea staged a dramatic late-inning comeback against Japan to advance to the finals of the inaugural Premier 12 baseball tournament on Thursday.
Trailing three-nil after eight innings, South Korea came from behind in the ninth to defeat Japan four-three at Tokyo Dome.
Pinch hitters Oh Jae-won and Son Ah-seop got things started with back-to-back singles in the top of the inning.
Jeong Keun-woo then doubled to make it 3-1, and Lee Yong-kyu was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
A five-pitch walk to Kim Hyun-soo forced in a run and set the stage for cleanup hitter Lee Dae-ho.
With the score at 3-2, the South Korean slugger lined a 2-1 forkball into left field to score the tying and go-ahead runs.
Lim Chang-min then came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win in relief.
South Korea entered the tournament ranked eighth overall and fell to top-ranked Japan 5-0 in their first game of the opening round.
The United States, which is ranked second, will face off against twelfth ranked Mexico in the other semifinal match on Friday.
The winner of that game will square off against South Korea in the final on Saturday.
