Small Packages of Kimchi Outstrip Larger Packs

Sales of small packages of kimchi are on the rise as single- and two-member households become more commonplace.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, the percentage of packaged kimchi weighing 200 grams or less rose from 15-point-four in 2013 to 17-point-seven in the first half of 2015.

Over the same period, three-kilogram or larger packages declined to take 16 percent of the market from 20-point-three percent.

Sales of small packages marked ten-point-six billion won in the first half of this year, surpassing that of larger packages at nine-point-seven billion won.
