History Institute to Begin Drafting Standard Textbooks This Month

The National Institute of Korean History says it will begin drafting state-issued history textbooks this month.

An official of the history institute said Friday that the organization will finalize the makeup of the 40-member writing staff for secondary school textbooks by Friday and begin the actual writing process later this month.

The official said the organization will issue a media release on Monday to reveal how the 40-member author group was formed although the names of the writers will not be announced.

Guidelines for writing the standard textbooks will be announced around November 30 when the writing efforts begin in full swing.

The institute's President Kim Jung-bae said early this month that only the lead authors will be publicized and the others won't be unveiled until the textbooks are completed.
