Authors Selected to Write State-Issued History Textbooks

The National Institute of Korean History has selected 47 authors who will compile state-designated history textbooks.

The institute said on Monday in a news release that it picked 26 authors for middle school textbooks and 21 for high school textbooks.

It added that out of those, 17 authors were selected among 56 applicants, who included professors, researchers and teachers.

The institute said renowned scholars were also invited, and experts in politics, economics and the constitution will participate in writing the modern history section.

However, it also said it will decide on when and how to disclose the names of the authors after consulting with them.

The institute will announce guidelines on the textbook compilation next Monday.
