Seoul to Publish Sourcebooks of Japan's Wartime Sexual Enslavement

Seoul will compile research on Japan’s wartime sex crimes and publish sourcebooks to more effectively respond to Tokyo’s attempts to distort history.

The state-funded National Institute of Korean History said Wednesday that it will conduct research overseas next year related to the sexual enslavement of women by Japan’s army during World War Two.

The institute said it will research for ten years in countries such as the U.S., UK and China and publish three to four sourcebooks each year from 2017.

The institute said it earmarked 300 million won for the project in next year’s budget, and the budget will increase to 500 million won from 2017.

This is the first time the South Korean government will publish a sourcebook about Japan’s wartime sexual slavery, which victimized women in various countries, such as Korea, China and the Netherlands.
