Private Ed. Spending in S. Korea Falls, But Still High in OECD

South Korea's private sector no longer spends the most on public education among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.

A report released by the OECD on Tuesday shows spending dropped by close to a percent, putting South Korea behind Chile. It's the first time in 15 years South Korea hasn't had the largest expenditure in that category.

Private spending on public education in South Korea this year accounted for about two percent of GDP. Spending as a percent of GDP fell from two-point-eight percent last year because of measures like a restriction on increasing college tuition.

Private education spending in South Korea is still about three times the OECD average of zero-point-seven percent.
