South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been appointed as the PR ambassador for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
Appointed on Thursday at the Seoul Press Center, Ryu promised to actively promote the Pyeongchang winter games in U.S. to his fellow players in Major League Baseball.
He said that major league players don't seem to be aware that the 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in South Korea.
He vowed to promote the event through various channels including social media.
Ryu also said that he particularly enjoys watching short track skating, and that he will watch more winter sports events to learn the rules in the run up to the Pyeongchang games.
The pitcher underwent a season-ending shoulder surgery this year and hopes to make a comeback next season.
The Pyeongchang Olympics organizing committee has appointed 14 public relations ambassadors including Ryu, Texas Rangers' outfielder Choo Shin-soo, figure skater Kim Yu-na and actor Lee Min-ho.
