Anchor: South Korean pop star PSY has again proved to be a world star after his latest single, “Daddy,” made it to the U.S Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Our Bae Joo-yon has more on the first Asian singer who has seen four songs make the hot 100 list.
Report: The lead single off PSY’s new album has made it to the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
According to the U.S.-based music charts provider, “Daddy” was ranked 97th on the Hot 100 singles chart as of Tuesday morning in the U.S.
It is PSY’s fourth song to make the chart, following “Gangnam Style,” “Gentleman,” and “Hangover.”
As a result, PSY has become the first Asian singer to put four songs in a row on the Billboard Hot 100.
His global phenomenon “Gangnam Style” remained second on the chart for seven consecutive weeks after taking 64th place in September 2012. His follow-up song “Gentleman” debuted at 12th in April last year and quickly rose to fifth. “Hangover” came in 26th in June of last year.
PSY’s agency, YG Entertainment, said Wednesday that the latest entry is all the more significant since no promotional activities for “Daddy” were carried out in the U.S., unlike for “Gentleman” and “Hangover.”
In South Korea, four of the nine tracks off his seventh album “Chiljip PSY-da” have already cracked the top 10 on MNet.com. As of the first week of December, “Daddy” topped the local chart, followed closely by another of his tracks “Napal Baji.”
Meanwhile, the music video for “Daddy” has surpassed 41 million views on YouTube in nine days since its release on December 1.
The music video for “Daddy” also came in first in the overall chart and on the K-POP chart of QQ Music of China as of Tuesday.
