A top Hyundai executive is under questioning about his role in the alleged cash-for-summit scandal.

Kim Yoon-kyu, president of Hyundai Asan, is suspected of having played a key role in funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to the North on the eve of the June 2000 inter-Korean summit.

The special counsel investigation team wants to know if Hyundai Asan Chairman Chung Mong-hun ordered the remittance to North Korea and exactly how much the business group had paid ... allegedly for exclusive rights for major economic projects.

Reports said investigators have uncovered evidence that a subsidiary of Hyundai Group, Hyundai Merchant Marine, sent two hundred million dollars to a North Korean state bank account in Macao ... one day before the landmark summit.

The opposition Grand National Party has claimed the money was a payoff for the South-North summit. The previous Kim Dae-jung administration denied the charges.
