Teachers Protest State-authored History Textbooks

Progressive teachers issued a statement during a rally, urging the government to withdraw its plans to adopt state-authored history textbooks.

The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (KTU) said that more than 16-thousand teachers participated in the statement, including non-KTU members.

The Education Ministry maintained its position that teachers who participated in the statement will face disciplinary actions.

The ministry filed a complaint with the prosecution against teachers who led the issuance of a similar statement on October 1, calling on regional education offices to take disciplinary actions. None of the offices did.
