Kim and six other athletes tested positive for the banned substance letrozole at the world championships held late November in Houston, United States.

The substance was found in Kim's urine sample.

The weightlifting champion who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics and the Incheon Asian Games last year is praised as a "hero" in North Korea.
