Law Schools Likely to Introduce Night Classes

Law schools across the country will likely provide night classes beginning as early as 2017, while the Korea National Open University (KNOU) may be allowed to open a law program.

The Ministry of Education said Sunday that it is mulling the moves as a way of lowering the barriers to entry for those seeking a career in law.

The ministry is considering including the plans in a set of measures aimed at improving the current law school system to be announced in the first half of next year.

A ministry official said the creation of night classes, including core courses, would be a great opportunity for those seeking a legal career while remaining employed.

The official said the ministry can keep the current law school student quota unchanged even with the introduction of night classes.

The official said, however, creating a law school within KNOU may require a quota increase and thus is still being reviewed internally.
