90 Pct of Parts for N.K. Missiles Come From Japan: Defector

A North Korean defector claimed Thursday Pyongyang imports 90 percent of parts for missile production from Japan.

The North Korean asylum-seeker also claimed at a news conference held in Washington that North Korea, which depends on foreign parts to produce military equipment, imported 100% of the parts necessary to make its missiles.

The North Korean defector also said the North's imports of missile parts from Japan dropped after North Korea launched a rocket, widely believed to be a missile, over Japan in 1998.

He said the reduction in imports has caused the North's missile production to fall by about 30 percent.
