Schools to Conduct Annual Safety Checks from 2016

Beginning next year, primary and secondary schools will be required to conduct annual safety diagnoses inside and outside of school facilities.

The Ministry of Education on Wednesday disclosed a three-year basic plan to prevent school safety accidents, including the required annual safety check.

Currently, about eight percent of schools around the country report safety accidents every year. The ministry hopes to lower the rate to zero with the three-year basic plan.

Under the new measures, schools will need to analyze potential social or natural disasters that could occur and set up safety plans based on the analysis. They will also have to conduct a safety drill according to the manuals.

In addition, beginning in 2017, safety training will be added to the curriculum at elementary schools.
