Seoul Phil Selects German Conductor for Saturday Concert

The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) has selected renowned German conductor Christoph Eschenbach for a concert set for Saturday to substitute maestro Chung Myung-whun, who resigned last week.

Eschenbach served as the conductor and music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 2003 to 2008 and visited Seoul last year for a performance with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

The SPO meanwhile said that it will this week select a substitute conductor for concerts set for next Saturday and Sunday. It plans to announce replacement conductors for six other concerts scheduled after July as soon as it makes the selections.
