Decline in new SARS cases in Beijing could be misdiagnosis: WHO

Written: 2003-05-17 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The decline in new SARS cases reported in Beijing could be due to misdiagnosis and not a sign of a downward trend in fresh infections. That's according to the World Health Organization.

WHO experts warned in a statement that misdiagnosis of cases could have contributed to the lower numbers of probable cases in recent days.

The Chinese capital reported 28 new probable SARS cases Friday, the sixth consecutive day that the city has reported less than 50 probable infections.

A few weeks ago, it was reporting an average of one hundred probable cases every day.
